Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I am very fortunate to teach a class of 21 amazing students in a combo 2nd and 3rd grade. Our students attend an inner-city, Title I, French Dual Language school. They come from a variety of beautiful ethnic backgrounds and bring much of their culture with them. Many of them also come from homes with limited resources.

Our students are unique because they come from bilingual homes and are currently learning a third language.

They spend half of their instructional day learning in English and the other half learning in French.

We have entirely designed the curriculum around a project based learning approach, mainly focusing on Sciences (in both languages), hoping to arouse students' curiosity and interest for the world around them.

My Project

While our French Dual Immersion Program opened a couple of years ago, it is the first year that we are welcoming 2nd and 3rd Grade students in our school ! Up until now, our school was running from ETK to 1st Grade. Therefore, we need help building a library for our more advanced grades, with books appropriate to our students' age, level and interest.

That selection of books include science themed books, which lead our curriculum, but also books about cultural diversity and inclusion, which is a core value in my classroom.
