This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade at a Title One school. Not all my students have access to exceptional literature at home. I feel as a educator it is my job to help expose my students to the amazing world of reading while they are at school. Not just reading, but learning to love what they read. I enjoy when the students get so excited about reading, they don´t want to put a book down. My favorite time of the school day is when I get to read to them!
My Project
The War That Saved My Life has many influential themes and characters. It is a historical fiction novel that has valuable lessons for students of all generations.
The main character Ada, is an example of grit, perseverance and determination.
She is a true inspiration for ALL students. I want my students to learn from her example as we delve deeper into her character traits and motives.
This powerful novel will not only help develop important character traits but will also teach students to love what they read.
Motivating students to read is a difficult task for upper grade teachers.
However, The War That Saved My Life is a novel young people will absolutely enjoy reading and will remember forever!
