My special day class is a safe environment in which my students may learn and grow as individuals. I foster each of my students' varying academic and behavioral needs.
The students range from 6th to 8th grade in a Surf City, USA middle school.
Although my students are indoors learning, they surf the pages of their textbooks daily for knowledge. Their minds are open, and they are eager to learn as they prepare for the next level of their educations in high school.
My Project
The "10 Prize-Winning TOON Graphics for Middle Grades" from AKJ Books will provide students in my classroom an opportunity to access literary text. My students will boost their confidence in their reading abilities through the various graphic novels.
My students will gain a respect for books.
The stories are interesting, appealing, and exciting! Students will acquire foundational literacy skills and increase their reading levels in age-appropriate texts which is often difficult as students grow older and the literacy gap widens. Students will also feel appreciation and gratitude for the people who donate and make these books possible for our classroom. Providing my students access to text will help encourage lifelong learning inside and outside of the classroom. In turn, they may be in a position to donate to others when they grow up, and they will remember the generosity shown to them through donorschoose.org.
