This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family's household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school, in a very large urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Fourteen staff members from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
My students need books to help them explore the world around them. Many of my students do not have experience meeting people from other cultures and it can be difficult to motivate them to learn another language. Therefore, each of my students in my ten French classes has chosen a topic to study about French culture. Already I have seen an increase in enthusiasm in my classroom and students are developing new perspectives about other cultures.
I don't have a classroom, but that won't stop me from encouraging students to design amazing projects.
We need a cart so that I can carry books for each student's selected project to their classroom. With these books, students will create unique projects that will be shared with parents and community members. By donating to purchase these books, you are helping not only my students, but also the surrounding community to learn more about people and cultures around the world.
