One of the most important jobs as a kindergarten teacher is to introduce the world to my students. Technology is one way to open that world, but often kindergarten students are the last group on the list to get computers and other technical equipment. Can you open help open their world?
I have an energetic class of 21 students who attend a K-3 consolidated building in a small town in Indiana.
Most of my students did not attend preschool and have come unprepared for the demands of the new National standards. I have at least 85% of my class in the poverty level. However, they are sweet and inquisitive and boy, do they love the computers! I am fortunate to have 5 computers in the room, although they are quite dated. I still use them to provide instruction for the 90 minute Reading block. That is where the IPad comes in!
My Project
An IPad could provide many avenues for instruction during the Reading block and other times of the day. It is highly engaging and the ideas are unlimited! The IPad could be used as a motivational tool to help students reach a goal or stay on task. It could be used in a small group, allowing individual students to push the buttons. It could be shared at a center between two students. Stories could be purchased through Scholastic for the students to listen to. An advanced child could get the challenging activities needed, just as a child who needs extra practice could get that as well. The activities are unlimited because there are so many apps available now with some being free. I am asking for one IPad because of the cost and I am willing to pay for apps on my own to provide a variety of activities.
By donating to this project, you would be helping to open the world for a kindergarten class.
They are often overlooked when it comes to technology equipment. You would be helping not only this class be introduced to new technology, but classes for years to come!
