My students need sets of guided reading books including 10 copies of Mom Can Fix Anything, 5 copies of One Happy Classroom, 5 copies of Zoom, Zoom, Zoom and 5 copies of City Mouse and Country Mouse as well as 4 different sets of leveled books to improve their reading abilities.
My students come eager to learn every day. Our day begins when we all sit down at the meeting area to do our morning meeting. Most of my students have just discovered the pleasure of reading and being read to. Children needs to be exposed to literacy to cultivate and enrich their language.
I serve 22 students in a low socio-economic neighborhood.
Some of my students are students with special needs. They are very curious and active kindergarteners. They are from diverse ethnic backgrounds. They have one common goal: become productive and exemplar citizens for their country and community. As their teacher, I need to guide them to follow their dreams.
My Project
Students in kindergarten are being introduce to early literacy and the joy of reading books on their own. Kindergarten students are required to read books according to their reading levels, unfortunately, in my classroom we don't have enough different level books for my students to take books home and read every night as part of their homework and literacy enrichment. I am asking for a variety of guided reading books including 10 copies of Mom Can Fix Anything, 5 copies of One Happy Classroom, 5 copies of Zoom, Zoom, Zoom and 5 copies of City Mouse and Country Mouse as well as 4 different sets of leveled books. Please help us get books, so my students can expand their literacy expectations and continue embracing their love for books.
This project will bring great benefits to my students.
As I already mentioned, my students are from a low-socio economic background. Most of them have very limited access to books and being exposed to literacy. Having a rich literacy classroom library will help my students achieve their best potential and achieve their expected reading level by the end of kindergarten.
