Help me give my students athletes the opportunity to work hard & compete equitably using the best equipment vs the other student athletes from different member schools who have had the opportunities to participate for a longer period.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The softball team is made up of student athletes that are no strangers to working hard and maintaining a GPA above a 3.0. However they lack the repetitions required to be able to compete with competitors that are life long student athletes & have had the opportunity to play the game since early childhood. We need to have the best and enough equipment to enable the team to focus on high repetitions of basic fundamentals not chasing balls and gathering equipment.
Our warmup is our practice.
Each drill is done at different levels and tempos to warm-up the student athletes. Furthermore, they do not get bored because the entire practice is active with minimal to no lines access to equipment. We want the group working on batting practice not chasing balls. The nets will catch the batted balls off of the Tee before games and during practice. It assures our student athletes are always active and practicing a skill. The biggest issue is pitching, since it takes time and repetitions to improve and build confidence. With the pitching mound in our indoor facilities, the student athletes can focus on improving their pitching and confidence. The teams practice session becomes our warmup and hence, affords the student athletes greater opportunities to improve with every repetition not having to learn a new drill.
