Ooga Booga - Tiki Mugs

My students need glaze to create Tiki Mugs. Students will learn about the Pacific Islanders and the history of use of tiki items in their culture.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you touched clay? Clay is fun, great to use with students with disabilities, everyone loves it. I want my students to be able to use clay to create a slab pot which we will turn into a tiki mug.

My high school is very diverse school in California.

A majority of our students are on free and reduced lunch and many can not afford basic school supplies. With the current budget cuts, it is hard to find money for art supplies. Our students can not afford their own supplies and we need help to purchase art supplies for our classes.

My Project

My students will learn about the Pacific Islander cultures and the use of tiki items in their society. They will learn how clay and glaze are made and how to create a mug out of it. They will be inspired by the tiki pop culture of the 60s and it's use in southern California.

Art is sadly underfunded.

Many of us art teachers spend thousands of dollars out of our own pocket to pay for the supplies that we need. This will help our students do something new and creative and inspire them in the arts.
