A typical day in the media center now involves a working Makerspace and books flying off the shelves. This means book checkouts are happening right alongside Making! It's an exciting place to be introducing the idea of "making" to our middle school students.
I'm pretty biased to our middle schoolers, but I think they are the best students around.
These students are so inquisitive and interested, kind, hard working, smart, aware, and motivated. They are willing to try anything in our newly created Makerspace.
My Project
This Dash and Dot Robot is going to give access to all our students the ability to learn code in a laid back, fun environment of our growing Makerspace. Coding is a new digital literacy that twenty-first century students should have access to. Dash and Dot will provide a fun way to build confidence in this digital literacy of coding. All six hundred and fifty plus students will have access to learn to manipulate Dash and Dot. The are multiple lessons we can extend out from their math and science classes as well. This robot is an all around great opportunity for our students.
With access to the Dash and Dot Robot in our Makerspace, all students will have great access to developing a new digital literacy in themselves.
With digital literacy being a huge twenty-first century skill our students need to master, this is a great opportunity for them. Even locally, as these students develop interest in these digital literacy's like coding, there are special tracks they can take in high school to enhance them further. This small robot can affect their decisions quickly.
