Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm asking for Chromebooks and headphones to help my multi-language learners learn English alongside their native languages. Social studies is a particularly difficult topic for MLLs because they need to learn a lot of technical language. Having online translation tools allows them to be able to learn those technical terms in their native language as well as in English. Headphones are also useful so that students can hear the words read aloud as they use Google Translate.
I'm also asking for books in Spanish.
Studies show that the only way to improve reading is to read. While our MLLs are learning English, they need to continue improving their reading skills in their native languages to help them stay on grade level.
Many MLLS have not closed the language gap post-COVID. This could help immensely in helping them make up the language loss they have suffered over the last few years.
