One Fish, Two Fish-I'll Take Care of You Fish!

My Students

Eight 3 and 4-year-olds bustle around a busy classroom, exploring the world around them, manipulating materials and learning through play and participation in carefully planned learning experiences.

All of these mini-scholars are exceptional students and none of them lack curiosity.

This is what happens in both sessions (morning and afternoon) of Ms. Hessing's half-day preschool classroom. This is the first school experience for many my students, who represent a ethnically diverse low income neighborhood where 100% of the school's students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

My Project

My preschoolers need supplies to keep their pet fish healthy, happy, and strong! We currently have 3 glo-fish in our classroom. One yellow, one pink, and one orange. Learning how to take care of their class pets teaches the scholars about assuming responsibility for a living animal. Also, these classroom pets teach the students concepts in math and in chemical, physical, and life sciences. The class can estimate the temperature of the water, graph fish-feedings, and predict the well-being of the fish by the brilliance of their coloring.

My mini-scholars love their fish and would be very disappointed if they could no longer care for them.
