My students need a document camera so that we can engage in more interactive read alouds, explore small objects closely, make less copies and all work together while looking at the same screen.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are absolutely amazing in every way. Our class is complete with 25 enthusiastic, curious and animated first graders from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) classroom meaning that a portion of our students have special needs. Our needs range from speech and language disorders to autism and none of the labels stop any of the students from trying their hardest and always exceeding expectations. These 25 students are dedicated and excelling in the classroom is the norm!
Our class of students is a unique, clever, determined and persistent bunch with a range of interests and needs--making each and every lesson new and exciting!
My co-teacher and I take a very hands-on approach to education which allows students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
My Project
Having a document camera in our classroom will allow all of my students to use our everyday materials in a new way. With a document camera I will be able to do a read aloud and have all of the students look for the picture clues at the same time. A document camera will allow me to demonstrate a math skill with manipulatives in a way that all students will be able to see clearly. Having a document camera means saving paper--students can look at a master copy and answer in their notebooks! The possibilities are endless.
Document cameras are an incredible tool that will help engage all types of learners in my classroom--visual learners will have the opportunity to see examples up on the board while tactile learners can demonstrate what they know on objects, artifacts or their work in front of the class.
This tool will help create an even more interactive classroom where students can take charge of their learning. Technology is becoming a huge part of our world and it is only right that students be exposed to different technology early.
