One Book Connects Us to the World!:Global Read Aloud 2016!
My students need 30 copies of "Pax" to improve literacy, add to the students' personal library, and participate in the Global Read Aloud Project 2016.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. H.'s classroom raised $455
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are wonderful to work with! They are a diverse group of students in terms of race, income, gender, and ability levels, all looking for a chance to learn! I have students who work at high levels and love to be challenged, down to students who need that extra push.
Many of our students may not have books in their homes.
Our school works to provide many opportunities for our Title 1 students to read, and they eagerly take advantage of them all! Whether it's Reading Night or "One Book,One School", they are ready for a good book with a great story!
My Project
Individual copies of "Pax" will provide each student with their own book. A copy of their own creates a sense of ownership and a greater interest in reading the book.
The students will follow along as I read the story aloud.
They may take the books home, and read it with family, friends, or on their own. They will participate in discussions about the story online and/or face to face with classes all over the country and world.
They will share their thoughts on their blogs, post and add to discussions via Schoology, create innovative book reports using a variety of tech tools, and interact as we read with other classes via Skype and/or Google Hangout. I am looking forward to the critical thinking these collaborations will provoke!
Not only will we use the book during Global Read Aloud 2016, but we will also use "Pax" during class to meet our English Language Arts standards. Students will practice reading fluently, using context clues to define words, analyze the author's purpose,etc.. This book will be used again and again during the school year.
The donation of "Pax" will improve my classroom because it will give them a book of their own that they can then share with the world! It will change my students' lives because the story provides a message they can relate to, and it creates global learners, as they make connections while discussing the book.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
