Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At the end of the year, my 7th grade ELA curriculum covers Economics. Through this unit, they engage in literature regarding how world economies work, how supply, demand, and access to resources affect their society.

As a Title I school, my students are more familiar with poverty than any child should be.

One of the greatest lessons I can teach from this unit is how wealth inequity causes some of our greatest problems in this country. What they get from the Hunger Games is the courage to start a movement and to tackle inequity in their communities.

I began teaching the Hunger Games as part of the Economics Unit this year as a way to engage students in literacy that is part of our unit topic. In my years of teaching, I have never seen them connect more with a story than I have with The Hunger Games. Many of them see the parallels between this story and their community. Help me get a class set of this book so I no longer have to run off blurry copies of one book.

One book in the hands of a child can drastically change our future. Please help me inspire the next generation of rebels.
