My students need books that foster international mindedness and writing tools that inspire young writers to become authors.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What does it mean to be a GLOBAL CITIZEN? It means being inquisitive, curious, empathetic, and knowledgable about the world. As bilingual students with disabilities, my students celebrate their uniqueness and that is exactly how they are able to celebrate and empathize with our diverse world!
“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more things that you learn, the more places you'll go!”
Our class LOVES reading! Even when texts become challenging to decode or comprehend, my students view these moments as opportunities to learn! Reading is what lets our class go on a global field trip EVERY SINGLE DAY...whether its slipping on the shoes of a student in Africa or the Middle East, going back in time to the era of Ancient Egypt, or exploring the depths of our imaginations with stories that challenge us to think deeply. Reading is exploring, reading is thinking, and reading allows our class to empathize and become caring global citizens.
As for writing, that is how our class uses what they read to take ACTION. Whether its writing letters to government officials, putting our imagination into words on paper, or sending Flat Stanley around the world, our class intrinsically values the power of words and the power of writing.
My Project
These resources: multicultural stories and texts will offer students knowledge and insight into our world. The stories will serve as a launching point to develop global citizens and inspire better writers. The writing tools will give my students the motivation and support that they need to become effective writers. The partitions give my diverse learners the necessary ability to write independently. The writing prompts give my kids the ideas and support to develop stamina and confidence as they become authors!
As a whole, this project allows my kids to gain pride in themselves—and increase their appreciation and understanding of others. This global conscience, in an ever interconnected world, is more important than ever because the need to act as a global citizen has never been greater.
This project directly empowers my students to learn about the world and to understand the commonalities that connect all people regardless of where they come from or what they look like.
At the same time, this project will challenge students to understand what makes them special and what makes all people unique. This project celebrates the power that reading and writing have to make the world a better place!
