One of the best ways for students to learn math is to engage with the content, look for patterns, and be willing to make mistakes. Sounds easy, right? It is no secret that math is an intimidating subject.
I am seeking help to provide my students with some materials to make math less intimidating.
This year, I have begun implementing ideas from Peter Liljedahl's book, "Building Thinking Classrooms". One of the big ideas in this book is to allow students to work on and discover mathematical concepts in groups of 3 at a standing whiteboard. The whiteboards have been great for building student confidence, promoting student-to-student discussions and willingness to make mistakes because they can erase them so easily.
I currently have one large whiteboard that is mounted to a wall in my classroom, this is were the majority of my 3 student groups do their work but it gets very crowded having around 20 students standing along that one wall. The moveable whiteboards would allow me to access more spaces in my classroom to spread students out and utilize the whiteboards more often. I have also requested magnetic grid paper to help allow students to work at the boards on concepts related to graphing. Thank you for your time and consideration.
