My Project
I teach 3rd grade. We're getting ready for the annual state test, one they've never taken before. Every year, I ask parents if they can donate snacks. This year my donations are few and far between.
Our students in 3rd are the last ones to eat lunch.
They often need brain breaks including something in their stomach. When they're hungry, not a lot of learning goes on. I've witnessed this over my 25 years of teaching. They need substance.
Our school is located in a low economic community. It's hard for parents, grandparents, or guardians to make ends meet, so I don't require them to donate. I totally understand, and I've been blessed to have family members or neighbors donate snacks.
My students anticipate snacks and are let down when there's not enough. I'm just asking for help for my students. They work hard in 3rd, and I want them to succeed. It's my job to pave the path for their success.
