This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The music program has become an afterschool haven from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Hollywood, California. Even on non-rehearsal days music can be heard all over the school as my students hold their own rehearsals. Many of my students have created their own side bands to practice covering the music of their favorite artists or even their own music.
The music program tries to highlight the cultural music diversity of our student population.
From traditional Armenian Folk songs to Cumbia to Hip Hop and Rock music, my students are ready and willing to create music for our community to enjoy.
My Project
After nearly two years the band is back in full swing. We are back louder and with many new students eager to play. However, having enough reeds for everyone is our current struggle.
With this large influx in students the band has grown almost three fold, but more students also means a larger toll on band resources.
Having enough new and clean reeds a top priority for the program now more than ever.
Even with my best effort to conserve reeds, accidents do happen and our supply is beginning to run low. With several performances and rehearsals coming up, my students will be using these reeds on their various instruments daily to strengthen their musical talents.
