My Students
I see our students as the little caterpillar from the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" written by Eric Carle. Preschool is the first school experience for our students and they come to us excited to learn and grow. As we teach them new concepts and they experience new themes and academic concepts, they continually grow into beautiful butterflies, ready and prepared to fly into kindergarten.
Our class consists of 20 students from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. We service students identified with specials needs, students with English as their second language, and students who are peer models.
Our school is located in the urban school district of Cleveland, OH where 100% of our students are on free or reduced meals.
My Project
Our story books and classroom library is the center of learning in our diverse population. Our students have access to our classroom library and books for a variety of reasons, and we want to continue to serve them with new and exciting stories that teach math, science, social-emotional skills, kindness, imagination, and overall literacy skills. Over the years our storybooks have been out-dated and worn out.
New storybooks in our classroom library will give our students access to new information and up-to-date stories to enrich their vocabulary and literacy skills. We use the stories for read alouds, partner reading, and quiet story appreciation time.
Nothing makes me happier then seeing my students like up when they read or listen to a good book!
