My Students

Once upon a time...How did those opening words make you feel when you were a child? Were you anxious with anticipation, wondering if the characters would live happily ever after? Traditional literature plays an important role in every child's life, encouraging them to dream big dreams!

My students are comprised of 65 children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.

All of my students are newcomers to the United States, many of which are refugees from war-torn countries from around the world. Most of my students have not had the benefit of a formal education prior to coming to the United States. It is my job to teach them to read, write, and speak fluently in English.

My Project

All students enjoy folk and fairy tales. My students, however, have endured numerous hardships in their young lives. Traditional literature ignites dreams in the hearts and minds of my students. What they thought was not possible becomes a dream after engaging in these timeless stories of determination, friendship, and magic! These readers not only retell the tried and true stories we all grew up with as children, but are written at a reading level that is easier for my beginning readers to understand. With the donation of these leveled readers I will be able to teach vital vocabulary and comprehension skills to my students in small group and large group instructional settings. We will be using them to study skills such as plot, cause and effect, and main ideas and details. In addition I will be able to introduce my students to new literature themes and genres (such as folk tales, fairy tales, and tall tales).

My students love coming to school and are eager to learn new things.

Many have endured hardships that no young child should ever have to endure. Will you give them a happily ever after ending by donating to this project?
