Once Upon a Line of Code: Picture Books for STEM

Help me give my students inspiring picture books about code, STEM, and famous creators like them!

My Project

As a STEM teacher, one of my biggest goals is to make science, technology, engineering, and math exciting, meaningful, and inclusive for all my students. In my classroom, we build robots, code games, and invent creative solutions, but representation is as important as hands-on learning. My students need to see themselves reflected in the worlds of innovation and discovery.

That’s why I’m building a library of picture books highlighting coding concepts, STEM exploration, and the real-life stories of inspiring scientists, engineers, and creators, especially those from diverse backgrounds.

Books that feature women in tech, Black inventors, Indigenous scientists, and young changemakers of color can spark something powerful in students who may not have seen those paths as possible for themselves.

These books will help me introduce big ideas in a way that’s age-appropriate, engaging, and deeply meaningful. Whether I teach kindergarteners about algorithms or 5th graders about perseverance in engineering, these stories open doors to imagination and identity.

With your support, I can give my students windows into the world of STEM and mirrors that show them they belong in it.
