This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My job is to teach young citizens to be bilingual/biliterate.
The school I work in is a BISO, (Bilingual School Organization), where 60% of the day is taught in English and 40% in Spanish.
My class consists of 20 kindergarten students ranging from 5 to 6 years of age. Our school is a Title I school. Eighty percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch and come from low socio-economic families. The majority of our students are English Language Learners (ELL) whose parents have migrated to the USA from around the world. Technology is a luxury, therefore most parents can’t afford to have it in their homes. This is why it is important to expose them to as much technology as possible in my classroom.
Our mission statement is to "bilingually foster student
achievement with respect for historical, cultural, and individual diversities with an emphasis on the preservation of our environment and an appreciation for the arts."
My Project
"Accelerating Excellence" is our school wide theme. Every day I begin the day by motivating my students with the old saying “On your mark, get set, go! Once I say this they automatically shift into gear and begin their day focused and making sure to stay on track. My little ones are very interested and intrigued by technology. Therefore, putting us on the path to achieve ultimate success of learning with the use of technologies we have today.
One of the many advantages of having a iPad Air, keyboard, and Apple Pencil in my class will be exposing them to the world of technology, thus igniting curiosity and give my students a craving for knowledge.
Additionally, this will be a fun and exciting way to expose the children to programs that help reinforce number, letter, color and shape recognition. They will be able to practice reading; listen to stories from books; and record themselves reading stories written by them. Keeping track of their progress and being able to target their different learning needs with the use of these programs is something I’m looking forward to. The possibilities are endless with this technology readily available to them. My students have their own individual needs. By using an iPad, their communication, reading and mathematics skills, will be much more enhanced thus leading them to success.
By supporting this project, you would be enabling my students to further their education and allow them to “Get ready, get set, go!”, stay on track, and engage in our rapidly changing technological world.
