Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently have a group of 23 fabulous second graders in a dual language classroom. They live in a low income, high poverty stricken inner city community in northern New Jersey. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom due to their socioeconomic status and their varying linguistic abilities. Despite this, they are ready, willing, and excited to learn! They tackle challenges and strive to do their best. They are resilient, respectful, and hardworking students.
My Project
I want my students to know that in our class, working together, they will always know what they can get; a healthy, safe, nurturing, and enriching classroom environment, a place where if what you need is a snack, a snack will be provided. Our families face financial difficulties daily and can't contribute classroom snacks.
A supply of food reinforcers will motivate my students and nourish their minds.
The students are highly motivated by food, and I want to provide them with more choices since they are constantly hungry and don't necessarily have access to healthier food options when not at school. I want to provide a free option of healthier treats for my students. If the students aren't hungry, they can focus on learning. Healthy snacks will increase learning abilities in the classroom throughout the day. The snacks can boost their energy level for learning. Snacks enable the students to become more engaged in classroom activities. The snacks can help students to grow and develop more skills in the classroom. The snacks can help promote less behavior problems. The snacks can help keep the students alert. A healthy snack can help encourage concentration and re-energize tired students. Snack breaks can help students perform better on tests.
