My Students

Thank you for visiting my page! My middle school math class is full of hardworking and creative students. My students have a variety of challenges ranging from autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, and behavioral struggles. Over 90% of them are on individualized education plans. The special needs of my students mean that I must endeavor to have creative and fluid lessons to keep them engaged.

My students love to work together to tackle challenges in the classroom.

In this supported environment, they are encouraged to communicate, problem-solve, and utilize teamwork to tackle real-world situations and problems. Because of the diverse abilities and challenges of my students I have learned to be adaptive in how I approach each student's needs in the classroom. This also means that I need to diversify and modify my lessons in order to keep them engaged.

My Project

Many of my students have sensory issues and anxiety. Having access to alternative writing instruments, snacks, and new calculators is critical in enabling them to have a successful classroom experience.

These items will help meet the accommodations that many of my students need to access the curriculum.

Because of the diverse abilities and challenges of my students I have learned to be adaptive in how I approach each student's needs in the classroom.

Having access to writing instruments in math is critical to the unique learning style of each child. Some prefer to write on their desks with a dry erase marker, while others require erasable pens due to sensory issues with pencils. Being able to offer these tools to my students is critical in fostering a comfortable and productive classroom.
