My students are engaging in learning about their socio emotional skills and developing their empathy skills. They are creating a mobile pop up pantry in to provide community service to their peers and the neighborhood by starting a mobile pantry in the Bronx to supplement and assist with distribution.
The cart will be utilized to house the items including water, crystal light drink mixes, Pretzels, Goldfish, yogi bites and popcorn for a mobile cart combating hunger for our students and their families in collaboration with a local pantries to serve the Bronx community.
The community of CO-OP city has a poverty rate of 18.9 %. Therefore this cart will help provide students and their families with afterschool snacks to help elevate parents from having to provide the snack it will be provided through the cart. Students will organize the cart, create advertisements for their food pantry and campaign around the school community and neighborhood community to advertise the food pantry. These resources will be used to provide students and their families with snacks to help fight hunger.
Students will work with a team of educators to collaborate with a local food pantry distribution event and supplement with snacks and beverages for the children of the community.
The students will learn how to take inventory of snacks and work on their social communication skills along with the school speech pathologist to work on their expressive language skills by learning formulate appropriate questions when asking the children and their families what snacks they would like.
