The three pre-K classes in my school would LOVE to have a heavy-duty paper cutter so that we can spend less time cutting and more time teaching!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Borock's classroom raised $336

At our school in the Bronx, each fall brings a new delivery of wide-eyed 4-year-olds eager to begin their challenging journey through school. Of the 18 children in each Pre-K, 10 or more will speak only Spanish, 4 or 5 will speak some English (in addition to a variety of African languages that they speak at home), and the remaining few will be native English speakers.
Given these hurdles to overcome, we have found that the most successful way to help children learn English and bridge the gap between home and school is to have them working together at a table with markers, paint, glue, and materials that transcend ethnic and cultural differences. The desire of 4-year-olds to engage each other is so strong that learning to talk to each other in English happens quickly, and builds a solid foundation for a new generation of readers and writers.
I would like to provide my students with the materials that would enable them to create their own mini-books, including alphabet books, autobiographies, as well as their own stories. In order to keep up with the demand for these small blank books, a great deal of paper-cutting is required. This task would be sooooo much easier if we had a paper cutter.
I am, therefore, requesting a heavy-duty paper cutter, so that we can provide this important tool into our literacy curriculum. This cutter will be used by all three of the Pre-K classes in my school, and I cannot begin to tell you how much we will appreciate the difference that this will make to the children, as we will be able to spend our day teaching instead of cutting! Thank you, donors, for keeping our 100-year-old school on the cutting edge!
