This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a diverse dual language school in Omaha. My students come from all over the city to take part in the dual language program as well as in our international magnet studies.

My students are eager learners that enjoy school and strive to be successful in all they do.

Our class is a traditional 2nd grade class, as we do not participate in the dual language program. However, my students are fortunate enough to receive weekly Chinese instruction. They learn Mandarin Chinese, from our Chinese teacher, Ms. Zheng. This is a program they look forward to each week and they enjoy learning about other cultures.

We are the hardest working, most kind, smart, and motivated class and we would love to receive your support in our endeavors.

My Project

These vibrating reminder watches are easy to use and would be a wonderful tool for my students that need gentle reminders to be focused, on task, and reduce anxiety. Each year I seem to have students that have more trauma issues and they struggle to concentrate in class and remain focused on what they are doing.

Students that struggle with anxiety, attention deficit disorder, or hyperactive disorders require consistent, gentle reminders to focus on their independent learning.

With these watches, timers can be set to manage independent work time for students that are wearing them. They simply vibrate and the vibration gives the brain a message of "keep working...continue to focus on what you need to do...etc." These tools will help me in the classroom when I am working with other students and I'm not able to verbally encourage students on a consistent basis. I like that it is positive and gentle reminder and it also doesn't allow the student to be embarrassed when getting redirected several times to focus and continue working. Time management is also a difficult skill for many of my students and these watches will help those students that are continually behind on work (because they will be unfocused and then time is up and we have to move on to the next subject/task). I hope that these watches can reduce some of the stress of not completing tasks and can also help with classroom management.
