My Project

My students love stories. They read stories, answer questions about stories, and write stories. Wouldn't it be great if they had the chance to perform them?

I want to encourage and engage my students in literature by giving them the opportunity to perform student directed puppet shows.

The students will choose scripts, create their own quality puppets, and work in small groups and direct their productions. They will have the opportunity to perform their plays for other students and families.

Some of my students struggle with reading, and it can be difficult to motivate them. This activity will absorb them in the process of puppet production and performance. They may forget that they don't like reading.

I will use two portable backdrop stands to create a puppeteer theater that is big enough for 4 -5 students at a time. The students will choose a script from the grade level appropriate books I have asked for. My students will create their own paper mache puppets using the supplies on my list. as well as the "beautiful junk" I have collected in my art cupboard. These creations will be treasured by the students for years, and remind them of the amazing stories they read and performed in third grade.
