This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from different family and economic backgrounds, what makes each one of them unique, each one of them has a unique personality to add to the class, each one of them has unique talent and potential to grow in to, and is my challenge to find that talent or potential.

Each one of them have to find a positive way to develop that talent to grow confidence and pride on themselves.

It’s also my challenge to open their minds to the diversity of this world, most of my students don’t know anything else but the neighborhood around them and it’s also my challenge to open their minds to this diversity of other cultures, and at the same time to embrace their own culture while reading.

My Project

We need more exposure to authentic literature in Spanish, so these books are a great start to Spanish reading comprehension. I want to start a pleasure reading program, students will be allowed to change books until they find one they like. Students will be required to read for ten minutes, and then I will seat with them and read, or form reading groups to discuss and do a comprehensible talk about the book in the target language, some of the questions may include their favorite scene from the book or what they understand what the book is about.

My goal is to let students choose from a variety of books until they find the perfect one, and learn to read for pleasure!

And what can be more exciting than being able to understand a book in Spanish language!
