My Students

Remember that book from school? That one you never forgot? That made you love reading and changed the way you thought about the world? "On My Honor" is THAT book for my students. I've never seen a kid not LOVE this book. They analyze what it means to be right or wrong and the gravity of choices.

My 28 students are an amazing group of kids.

They have a few things stacked against them: high poverty school in urban southern California, most without a family member ever having gone to college, and most working with English as a second language. They are also funny, kind, and very willing to be engaged. Once they're hooked into something, they are VORACIOUS learners. They'll take a topic and run with it and take it somewhere totally new.

My Project

My students need a class set of the book On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer. Reading is a life skill. You read better, you think better. You write better. You speak better. Reading well means you communicate and think well! These resources will help my students build their reading and language skills while also opening up the world of analytic thinking to them. This book helps students into the world of reading for more than just understanding the words on the page. It's reading to be engaged.

This is the book that my students will remember.

This is the one that opens up reading for many of them. Your donation is a chance to help my students access more than just a book. They get to access a love of reading, engaging discussions, and an emotional and intellectual reaction to literature. They also get to see the fact that people in the world care about them even if they don't know them. They get to see that they are worth something to the world.
