My Students
Do you remember the book that first sparked your love of reading? Books have the power to spark creativity, present logic puzzles, or just help one get lost from reality.
I teach 4th grade in a Title I Georgia public school, which has over 70% of the students on free or reduced lunch.
The students are eager to learn, but it is often difficult to find funds to purchase materials for new projects. These materials would help bring new excitement to lessons being taught in my classroom.
My Project
With a Kindle students can play games such as Factor Samurai and read interactive books. Such material is not easily accessible on a traditional computer. Students work much better when things become tangible, which is what a Kindle can do to such content when delivered to a child. A Kindle does not just open the door of interactive games and evokes, but connects to Amazon's massive digital library.
The Kindle is not meant to replace the teacher in the classroom, nor create an entire virtual classroom, but is meant to be a tool teachers can use to teach, just as teachers use pencil and paper. I plan on using the Kindle in my room to enrich my teaching and the curriculum as well as provide opportunities for students to reach books and apps they would not normally have access to.
Exposing students to literature on topics they are familiar with, on interesting topics, and that they relate to can enhance the learning experience exponentially.
Unfortunately, the only way these books can reach my students are through donors like you. Thanks in advance for your help and support.
