My students are from an inner-city section of Cleveland, known for unsafe streets. We focus on making safety one of our top concerns at school because a feeling of safety allows you to focus on learning while at school.
My students are fifth and sixth graders working to succeed in education with obstacles that we are trying to overcome to be able to match our counterparts in more affluent areas.
I would like my students to be able to learn modern uses for technology such as Google Docs, Microsoft Office, online storage, and coding to be ready for future careers.
My Project
We are aiming to get samples of minerals and the mineral testing kits so we can gain a better understanding of how minerals formed and what their properties are. We tried to improvise last year, but not having any minerals to test made the concept difficult to remember.
We are hoping to have the hands on materials to make the Science we are doing last a lifetime.
We needs microscope slides of plant and animal cells so we can see up close what parts are in each cell. It is difficult to create a compare and contrast diagram when we only have a couple pictures in a book to work from. Seeing real cells makes the learning come alive.
