Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Although eighty-one percent of our school is socioeconomically disadvantaged, my class is a group of positive, fun-loving, and determined children. They come to school each day with a growth mindset, believing that they can and will learn. And they do. They soak up everything I teach them from academics to interpersonal skills.
I am hoping to provide them with the meaningful, hands-on learning experiences they need and deserve.
Please join me in creating opportunities for them that they will remember for a lifetime!
My Project
In 4th grade social studies, students study the history of their state. California's history has rich multicultural beginnings. One of the main topics we teach is the California mission system, which many different people helped develop.
I would love to give my students an opportunity to see a reminder of California's Native American, Spanish, and Mexican past.
I would like them to see first-hand the hard work and sacrifices of those who built and maintained the mission, as reading about it in the textbook is simply not enough. My hope is that this field trip will provide them with background knowledge of their state, and more importantly I hope that it will provide an opportunity to teach them lessons on tolerance of others that will last a lifetime.
