This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every day, my 1st grade students have the opportunity to use a Chromebook in my classroom. They are so tech savvy that sometimes they help me with my technology problems! I've heard more than once, "Mrs. Trujillo, you just press this button." Ugh! Well, you can imagine 21 Chromebooks on at the same time can pose a bit of a noise problem, and my classroom headphones are starting to wear out. I would love to have a new class set for the students to use so they don't glitch.
I love to make my students feel special.
Each week, we choose a Chief of the Week. This student is chosen at random and has special privileges in the classroom. One of the most fun things this student gets to do is sit on a rolling stool as an alternative to sitting on the carpet during instruction time. This next year, I'd also like to give an alternative desk seat as well. Boring old chairs are not fun! I'd like to offer a wobble stool to my Chief of the Week when he/she is doing seatwork.
Finally, my students love to challenge themselves to be better. I encourage this by timing some of the reading or math activities that we do. Having giant timers that everyone can see would make this activity so much more exciting for my students.
Even though I've been teaching for over 20 years, I try to keep my classroom up-to-date, and I hope to keep instilling a love for learning in each of my students.
