My Students
My middle school students are genuinely great kids who work hard in my classroom. They are kind and empathetic; in fact, many of our substitute teachers comment on our students' positive behaviors, and that makes them want to keep coming back to sub! In a time where the only constant seems to be change, our students have adapted so very well to COVID life. They have taken the new rules in stride and have done their part to keep us in school!
My Project
My biggest fear when I watch my students today is that technology has taken away their ability to communicate face-to-face with others. Students are constantly on their phones and some cannot seem to live without their device close by.
Giving students an opportunity to connect with their peers and teachers through "old school gaming" is just what they need!
I would like to start a club where students learn how to play cribbage and chess. Not only will this help their math and critical thinking skills, but it will also allow them the chance to socialize in person.
