it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, write, build, and read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100% in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from impoverished backgrounds, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
Our students are learning in English and Spanish. They are beginning a project based learning theme on farms. They need books, puzzles and toys to re enact what they are learning. They are city kids and may not have seen much beyond their urban surroundings. Teachers will read the books, students will design a farm that takes cares of animals and grows food. They will use a farmers, look at weather patterns and learn how food makes it to market. As their ELD teacher I need materials for students to practice speaking in English. This communication is vital to their English language development.
