My Students

My students are extremely talented artists. At the beginning of the year, I asked them to write three topics or goals they had for their learning this semester. Then I compiled them and had kids vote. One of topics students wanted to focus on was oil painting.

I would like to help them achieve their learning goals in these areas, but oil painting is a particularly expensive media.

The students pay a supply fee to take the class; however, art supplies are very expensive, and the nominal fee cannot cover the cost of oil painting. It is important for students to experience a variety of painting medias. Being able to use oil paints will allow students to have a deeper understanding of the artistic processes.

My school is located in a working class area. Our students take great pride in the things they own and care for them. Students are unusually compassionate and caring towards each other and the community. They come from families who are not wealthy but have worked to instill values of hard work, respect and integrity in all they do. I want to give them every opportunity I can as they deserve the very best.

My Project

My students have experienced, colored pencils, drawing pencils, charcoals, water colors and ink painting. Now they would like to explore oil painting. It's a challenging media but these Advanced Art students are ready and hungry for a new challenging learning opportunity.

These materials are necessary to bring their goals of oil painting to life.

We need consumable supplies like canvas, paint, brushes, and cleaners.

Learning about the oil painting process will strengthen their understanding of innovations of the industrial revolution and aluminum oil tubes. They will also learn about the science behind oil painting. Did you know oil paint hardens, but never really dries? Most importantly, they will experience the media helping to support their understanding of their individual position in art history and in the current art world.
