This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever read a book which was part of a series that was so compelling that you could not wait for the next book to be released? Our classroom library is filled with books that are too difficult to read and limited on popular books. We need books that will keep us hooked on reading.
My 5th grade students come from a low-income neighborhood in an inner-city school.
They thoroughly enjoy selecting books from our classroom library and are eager to read books that spark their interest. Although most of my students are struggling readers, they enjoy books that are easy to read and love to read books that help them escape into a world of imagination. When they find books that catch their interest, there's no putting them down! They even read while walking in the hallways!
My Project
In an effort to support their growth as readers, my students need books that they can read independently. These bookworms need a variety of books to choose from that are low-level but challenge their thinking. These book sets reach out to both male and female students with topics that are of high interest to children. With the ability to read books from a series, students will be able to continue on the journey of a character, build their stamina for reading independently, be able to talk to their peers about story plots and characters, and even suggest books to their peers.
By funding this project, you will allow my students to engage in the wonderful feeling of autonomy by reading independently.
These books will be part of our permanent collection in our classroom library and be available for students to read at school or at home. All of the titles listed are books that I know my students can read independently, have an interest for reading, and are part of a series that continues to touch the lives of its readers.
