My Students

When walking into the classroom of your favorite teacher what is the first thing you remember seeing? When my students walk into my classroom everyday I want them to see a display of new books. The biggest challenge for my students is the expected year and half growth in reading they must make.

My students attend a Title One school in North Carolina that is very high poverty.

My students are thinkers, my students are learners, and my students have a great love for school but they do have challenges because they live in an inner city. Most of my students' socioeconomic status is low poverty. A few of my students do not even have a permanent address, they move from house to house. My class consist of exceptional students, English Language Learners, and traditional students. My English Language Learners and exceptional students rely a great deal on visual learning. They need to see pictures in order to better understand many things. Our library at the school does not have an abundance of updated or high interest books. My students love to read but it becomes a challenge when we do not have a expansive collection of books.

My Project

Our classroom will be receiving new books because of a project that was already funded through DonorsChoose.org. The question is where do we put all these new wonderful books? A Kids Colorful Essentials 3 Compartment Storage Book Display is the answer. With this requested book display my students will be able to see all of our new books in one area and will be able to choose books quicker and in a more organizer manner. This will improve classroom management and will allow my students more time to read their books. When my students walk into the classroom I want them to feel excited about reading. The ability to see the organization and the cover page of books will help them achieve this love of books and reading. It is hard to get them excited about reading when books are hidden away on a shelf or on my desk. There is no place in our classroom to display books. Also, when my students see how well organize I am because of the book display, they will take more pride in organizing their workspace.

This book display and organizer will have a tremendous impact in our classroom.

It will affect many aspects of my students' school life including their love for literacy and their organizational skills. My students are expected to make a year and a half growth in reading by the end of the school year; seeing a display of new books will get them excited about reading and this is the first step in getting them closer to their reading goals.
