Oh Where oh Where Has our Nurse Gone?

My students need a water cooler, small baggies for ice, thermometer, and band-aids!

My Students

My kindergartners are constantly moving and on the go. To ensure that my students have opportunities to burn off energy, to give their growing brains a break, and play outside, I take my students outside on the playground! Thankfully, the teachers at my building provide their students will this same opportunity!

Play on the playground is necessary for brain breaks, but scratches, bumps, and bruises do happen!

We are 5 and 6 years old after all.

There are currently 24 children in my classroom. My students constantly on the go when learning. Once in the morning, we venture outside to give our brains a break, breathe in some fresh air, and get some much needed Vitamin D from the sun!

My Project

In my school district, we no longer employ a school nurse to help with children that may get injured or sick, or to dispense medicine. The responsibility of caring for these children falls on our school secretaries or me, the classroom teacher.

My school needs a water cooler (to help with medicine disbursement), BAND-AIDS (for cuts and scrapes), baggies for ice (homemade ice packs), and a new thermometer to check children for fevers.

In our school that houses kindergarten through 5th grade, we seem to always have children outside playing, or in our outdoor classroom with our teachers. When children play outside, accidents happen. A kickball game causes someone to fall, a student trips and falls while running up the playground equipment stairs. It seems to be always something! Ice, BAND-AIDS are needed for these times!

Towards the end of the school year, our water cooler began to freeze, therefore making it useless to aid in giving water to students in our sick room (for drinks to ensure hydration and medicine disbursement). On top of that, we ran out of BAND-AIDS, and baggies to make "ice packs" for our students when they fell and hurt themselves. These items seem small, but they are extremely important to the student that falls and skins his knee on the playground. Can you imagine trying to put 2-3 band-aids on a knee, because we don't have large band-aids?

This project not only will help, protect, and soothe my kindergarten students but over 200 other students in our building. Thank you for helping our students grow!
