The students that attend our school come from a wide range of economic status and backgrounds. We have students that speak different languages and come from different states or systems every day. The student body is about 760 kids which I see at least once every 6 days for 45 minutes.
We have a choir and and Orff Ensemble that meets twice a week and performs 3-4 times a year in addition to our all grades' performances in the fall and spring semester.
Students chosen for these ensembles are very talented young musicians who enjoy expressing themselves through music. We rely heavily on our sound equipment to make sure that all students are heard and can put on a memorable show for our community and our school.
Each year all of the grades have their own concerts to show off their skills and what they have been preparing in music class. We have a Halloween Concert, a Christmas Concert, and two concerts in the spring along with a Talent Show! This has taken a toll on the equipment over the years and resulted in broken or damaged equipment that does not work half of the time it is used.
My Project
The purpose of this project is to help update our sound equipment that is used through the year for our Choir concerts as well as the multiple grade level concerts. The current sound system does not work very well and will often just stop working in the middle of a performance. By updating our equipment, we can provide our students and audience with the best possible performing arts experience we can give them. It is my hope that by giving them an amazing experience, I can inspire them to continue in the arts once they leave my classroom and become artists themselves.
