My Students
Do you remember the last time you read a book that you refused to put down until you finished? Do you remember where you were when reading that book? My guess is that you were not sitting in a cold straight chair at your desk. Unfortunately, that is where my students spend their school days reading!
Our school has a great learning environment that includes students from our neighborhood, students with special needs, and students who have been assessed as gifted or talented.
My first grade students are those who have been identified as gifted and as a result receive a rich and accelerated learning experience. These students hunger for the opportunities to get lost in a book and let their imaginations lead their way.
My Project
In order to make our classroom library more inviting, I am requesting classroom library book bins to help organize our classroom books. In order to know what books we have, students need to be provided with a hassle-free system. I am also requesting a mobile teaching cart. You may think this will not help students "get lost in their book", but this will be a place where students will be able to write down their imaginations and ideas while they are on the different adventures they take when reading a book. Finally, what else is a better way to show the most popular book(s) of the week or of the season then by having a book display holder. My goal is that these items will continue to encourage students to take that extra time of out their day to "get lost in a book".
