Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is FULL of young innovators just ITCHING for opportunities to expand their knowledge. We have access to technology via devices, but have little to no resources for our students to explore STEM!
Our 600 students are risk-takers, innovators, and full of energy to learn!
They love to explore hands-on activities and find new conclusions.
We are from a low-income, high needs population with many English Language Learners. Our students come from diverse and culturally rich backgrounds. Our students learn in unique ways and we, as teachers, try to individualize instruction and foster a love of learning that will take our students far!
My Project
This is a school-wide project inspired by the Learn Storm contest. We hope to develop resources for teaching our K-5 students through STEM through innovation kits, (Osmo, Logic games, Edison kits) robotics (Dash and Dot robotics, Ozbot, Spehero) and coding (Cubelets, Code Master Progam),
to build a curriculum focused around STEM exploration.
Our students in grades K-5 will learn to overcome obstacles, work collaboratively, and investigate science, math, engineering and technology concepts! We will use all of these materials to create STEM kits by grand band for students to easily access and explore. We will also be providing lesson ideas for teachers to get them started!
Our school has NEVER had many STEM resources at our fingertips.
We will be able to have school-wide exploration clubs, classroom STEM experiences, student collaborative teaching and an increase in math and science concept understanding. We will have students who are EXCITED and INTERESTED in learning because it is FUN!
Our hope is to motivate our students so that they many achieve any and all of their dreams!
