This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I love coming to school everyday!" is music to the teacher's ears! Providing a fun and safe learning environment where students are challenged and LOVE to come to school everyday is our goal. Not only does a love of learning lead to success in life, it is vital for our students, who come from impoverished and unpredictable homes lives, to feel that school is a safe place to learn and grow the valuable skills they need to fulfill their dreams.

Our school district has the disheartening statistic of 50% of our K-8 students dropping out of high school and 100% of students qualifying for free lunch.

We are aware that if we do not prepare our students for future challenges they will not be successful when they arrive in high school and beyond.

STEM or STEAM Education is vital for our students to be prepared for a successful future in an innovative-based and technology-driven society. Our goal is to engage students, foster creativity, and develop their capabilities in STEM.

My Project

Our Gifted and Talented students will be working in cooperative groups to build over 300 exciting projects using Snap Circuits! The Snap Circuit kits include manuals and diagrams that guide students to how electrical circuits work in a fun and engaging way! Some of the many projects they can build with these kits include an AM/FM radio, burglar alarms, door bells, and many, many more!

Snap Circuits are educational games that have received a multitude of awards.

These include the ASTRA 2010 Best Toys for Kids, TOTY 2008 Toy of the Year, and the National Parent Publications Award Gold, just to name a few. They are student-driven, interactive, and very engaging!

Not only will student's gain valuable skills and knowledge of electric circuitry, the process of building Snap Circuits allows children to further develop their problem solving abilities. They must follow directions, gather and make sense of information, and gain experience in applying what they learned to real world problems and develop solutions. These important skills will help prepare our students for a successful future in high school, college, and on-the-job success.
