Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an enthusiastic class of learners with a passion for math and a love for collaborative learning. They are full of questions and absolutely love participating in class discussions.

Although they are enrolled in a Title I school and more than half are English Language Learners coming from foreign countries, they are resilient in their effort to overcome obstacles that stand in their way.

It's as if they are aware of their potential and fully understand their responsibility to fulfill it.

My Project

Currently, the students in my school face the task of performing at or above standards on state performance exams. I would love to give my students the opportunity to learn the math concepts that they are required to know, while enjoying engaging math games and activities that will make learning more fun for them. I am requesting a variety of math materials, including hands-on math manipulatives, to use during math lessons and center activities. Foam geometric shapes will help make geometry more accessible for kinesthetic learners. Foam dice and multiplication/division flash cards will allow students to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Place value coins and linking cubes will provide students with the support they need to add and subtract multi-digit numbers. Many of my students struggle to understand key grade level math concepts. These materials will surely provide them with the extra support they need. Additionally, the donation of these materials will allow me to reinforce these key concepts in a way that is fun and meaningful.

Supporting this project will provide my students, along with future students, with several meaningful math experiences throughout the school year.

These experiences will help my students master grade level concepts while developing an interest and confidence surrounding mathematics. Ultimately, through hands-on learning, my students will become independent thinkers and successful mathematicians.
