My Students

What kind of learner are you? I am a visual learner and like many students I need to see something to help me understand. I can still remember struggling in math as a student because most of my teachers did not have "things" for me to see.

I teach in a low income/rural area in our school district.

I am moving up from 4th grade to 5th grade with a great group of students. They work really hard and want to learn. I already know their strengths and weaknesses in math. A lot of them will need extra help and review in place value and fractions.

My Project

I want to have meaningful "things" in my room for them use during math. A fraction pocket chart would be a great way for them to visualize fractions without using valuable time in class to pass out individual fraction strips. The place value flip charts will help students understand and practice place values. Students will gain confidence in identifying place values and reading numbers aloud. My students love to use dry erase boards! The place value boards will keep students on track as they regroup and compute answers.

All of these items will build confidence and competence in the math skills of my students.

Having good visuals and fun ways of practicing math is always a plus. Please help my students continue to grow in the 5th grade!
