My students need 20 seat pockets to help them stay organized and keep their tables neat and orderly. They also need basic school supplies, like pencils and folders.
I remember my first day of Kindergarten! I had my very own crayon box, pencil, scissors and jar of paste. I also had a desk to put it all in. My tiny classroom contains only 4 tables for 17 students! We need seat pouches, crayon boxes and everyday school supplies.
I work at an inner city school where many of the students face daily challenges I could never have imagined.
Crime, gangs, poverty, and other obstacles face these children every day. Many parents do not have the money needed to spend on necessary school supplies. Money for school supplies provided by the district is quickly depleted to purchase copy paper, pencils, crayons, construction paper, scissors and glue for the students. Over the course of the year the crayons wear down, folders become tattered and torn and pencils are sharpened down as far as they can go. I need to replenish our supplies so my students can continue to learn and grow as students.
My Project
Imagine gaining 24 minutes of instructional time every day! That's an extra 4,320 minutes per school year or an additional 10 days of instruction! How can I gain that much time? By having supplies within reach of my students. By having seat pouches with the necessary supplies inside, I can gain 10 days of instruction. That time will make all the difference in the world to my students. Transition from Writing to Science is as easy as putting their folder in the pouch and taking out their journal. Right now students have to collect the folders while I pass out their journals. This takes valuable instructional time and every minute is precious.
My students struggle everyday to meet their learning goals.
Providing them with the tools they need will increase their success and their confidence. By donating these supplies to my students I can help them reach their highest potential. No student should be deprived of an education or the supplies needed to be a successful student.
