Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a wonderful school, in a hardworking community, in Corona, NY. My students are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They come from caring families who want the best for them and help them out in every way they can, but often rely on the school community for the most support. My students love coming to school and fully appreciate any new experiences or resources provided for them. They are eager to learn to read and write while establishing friendships.
My Project
Many families in my school community are still struggling and I would like to ensure we have the basic supplies so that students can get right to work from day one. This year we don’t want to waste anytime. I’d like to have student’s supplies ready to go. These basics will help my students feel welcome and excited to get their learning started. When they arrive and see colorful crayons, sharp pencils and crisp writing notebooks they will feel so happy and prepared to learn.
From day one we are telling stories and getting to know each other and my students are enthusiastic to start writing and drawing these stories in their notebooks.
I love to show them at the end of the year the first page in their notebook and how much they have grown as writers and storytellers. Having the supplies on day will set us on the “write” path!
