My students need 34 copies of "Of Mice and Men" in order to continue our college prep reading, 11th grade English course!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Hodgens's classroom raised $452
This project is fully funded
My Students
"Of Mice and Men" is a classic American text, and unfortunately our school does not have any copies of it! Without these bare minimum resources, our students have no shot at an education that will prepare them for college, and for life.
Our students are a lively bunch of 11th graders.
Nearly all come from a low-income background, many have learning and emotional disabilities, and almost all are reading below grade level. In spite of these challenges, they bring intelligence, engagement, and wit to the classroom as we read and analyze the classics of American literature and prepare them for college testing. They are genuine, bright, and almost always hilarious. They are hungry to challenge themselves (even when they don't realize it!).
My Project
"Of Mice and Men" is a wonderful book that every high school student should read to be a fully culturally literate college student and adult. It contains wonderful writing, and examines powerful, universal themes. As our students read and analyze this book, they will continue to grow as scholars, and be better prepared to grapple with the challenges of higher education.
Our students do not ask for much: they want engaging lessons and the materials they need (and sometimes, pizza as a reward for their hard work).
It is a crime that our school does not have the resources it needs, and we are going to right that for the sake of our students!
