My Students

My students include 7th graders whose families have chosen to attend a charter school focusing on arts and personalized learning. They come from all around the southern areas of San Diego County.

I love knowing that I'm building the next generation of artists, performers, and thinkers.

I want to be able to provide them each with the environment and resources that they need to grow and thrive. There are so many students that can be truly engaged in their learning thanks to arts integration. Some of my students are wonderfully talented at fine arts, dance, or music, and some of them are just beginning to cultivate an interest. My goal is to help each of them reach their fullest potential by constantly integrating art into their learning.

My 7th grade class is a self-contained classroom. I teach math, science, history, and English, but I am also the supervisor for our Board Games & RPG Club as well as Student Council.

My Project

This project will allow me to bring Virtual Reality into my classroom. The Oculus Rift Quest is the latest generation in VR, and having it in my room would open up the ability for my students to have a ton of new options for learning and creating.

Currently, my room has a VR headset and it has been an amazing addition towards bringing our classroom into the future of education.

We utilize it very frequently, and I think I've definitely proven the concept that VR can be used to educate and engage students with STEM and art. This VR headset would allow students to do activities such as attend virtual field trips, learn about biology by digitally exploring the human body, and design 3D models to utilize with our school's 3D printer. The possibilities are endless, and my own technological know-how means that students will have plentiful opportunities to use this device throughout the year.

I can't express enough how immersive current generation Virtual Reality technology is. If you haven't experienced it for yourself, all I can do is promise that it is always awe-inspiring. Through this one project, students will have the ability to design, engineer, and explore mathematics, science, art, and history in completely new ways.
